Matteo Fossi, Florentine by birth and culture, studied piano at the Fiesole Music School with Tiziano Mealli, graduating in 1999 at the Conservatory of Ferrara with honors. Later he specialized with Maria Tipo and Pietro De Maria, then with Pier Narciso Masi, and in 2001 he attended the seminar of Maurizio Pollini at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. Very active as a concert artist from a very young age, he is now considered one of the leading Italian chamber musicians: he studied with artists such as Piero Farulli, Pavel Vernikov, Alexander Lonquich, the Milan Trio, Mstislav Rostropovich; has always played in duo with violinist Lorenza Borrani (graduating under the guidance of Pier Narciso Masi at the Imola Academy with the Master "as the best training ever in the last decade" and distinguishing himself in the most important international competitions). In 1995 he founded the Klimt Quartet, one of the most active Italian chamber music groups, and for ten years he has been playing a piano duo with Marco Gaggini, with whom he undertook the first complete global recording of works for two pianos by Brahms, Bartók, Poulenc, Ligeti and Schönberg.
With these formations, and as a soloist, Fossi has performed in all the main Italian seasons and, abroad, in important theaters and festivals in Germany, France, Austria, Hungary, England, Spain, Belgium, Poland, Switzerland, United States , Brazil, China, South Korea. He constantly collaborates with international artists such as Antony Pay, Mario Ancillotti, Pier Narciso Masi, Calogero Palermo, Giovanni Sollima, Alexander Ivashkin, Massimo Quarta, Othmar Müller, Moni Ovadia, Milena Vukotic, Maddalena Crippa , Mario Caroli, Sonia Bergamasco, Luigi Lo Cascio, Suzanne Linke, the Quartetto of Cremona, the Quartetto Savinio, the Quartetto Adorno.
He has an intense recording activity, for labels such as Decca, Universal, Brilliant, Naxos, Nimbus, Stradivarius, Tactus, Amadeus, Unicef, Fenice Diffusione Musicale; in 2014 he released his first solo CD, dedicated to Brahms, published by Hortus, which was received with enthusiasm by specialized critics, so much to justify, in the following years, four other records dedicated to Schumann, Schubert, Debussy and Chopin.
Also active in the organization and dissemination of music, he invited some of the most important music personalities in the world to Florence, including Rostropovich, Kagel, Penderecki, Sofia Gubaidulina, Natalia Gutman, the Kronos Quartet. Matteo Fossi teaches the main Piano at the "Rinaldo Franci" Institute of Musical Studies in Siena and Chamber music at the Fiesole Music School, of which he was vice president. He is regularly invited to hold seminars and masterclasses in Italy and abroad.
